Home Economics: The Discipline
Painting by Crisanto
The discipline of Home Economics was first officially recognized in the University of the Philippines on November 12, 1921 when the Department of Home Economics was instituted in the UP College of Education.
In 1990 during the deanship of Dr. Cecilia A. Florencio, the discipline was defined by the CHE faculty in their own terms:
Home Economics is the study of families and the management of resources available to them for the satisfaction of basic needs in changing environments. Home economics addresses both the physical/material and relational dimensions of living and their interaction.
